I then thought it might have happened because I'd just used the Mew glitch, but I'm not sure how that would even work (it has no chance of corrupting your save file afaik) and it's happened even when I didn't use the glitch, anyway. The first time it happened, I thought I might have jostled the cartridge by accident while saving, but I was extremely careful with it while trying again later, and it still happened again. This has happened two or three times now. Once this happens, the save file on the cartridge gets erased, though the saves already on the card can be restored just fine. However, I've started running into this issue while trying to back up my save, where the card will display the usual "SAVING" screen, then flash to the Gameboy/Nintendo screen as if I had just started up a game, then freeze. Since the save battery could finally die on me at any time, I've been periodically backing up my file on a Mega Memory Card, which until today has worked just fine. I recently started a new file in my old Pokémon Yellow game, which miraculously still holds a save ~20 years later.
